Background Void Concept

Having the flexibility to carefully shape the backgrounds and the voids within the backgrounds is particularly important in a layered environment scheme. The background must fill a good portion of the screen as all playable blocks are attached to it, but voids must also be present to create parallax motion between the layers. Along with textures and props, the shape of these voids really help distinguish the environments and create ambiance. The left sketches show three groups of 5-8 tiles that can be combined to create a large variety of uniquely shaped edge patterns and voids. The right two sketches are of the same level with differently shaped and placed voids.
